Today's Race ...

Posted by Avram Freedberg

We didn’t win but got $1680 in purse money for a fast finishing 5th (Missed 4th by a nose). It was nice seeing her finish well (though I didn’t like her start). Linda also liked her finish and is no longer ready to put her in claiming races. We’ll try this type of race again first. Here’s what the official “race summary” said: OFCR. SHEILA T REX steadied and altered course to the outside in the early stages, was unhurried for a half, angled to the rail entering the stretch and rallied belatedly.

Conseated Lady worked 3 furlongs yesterday in 36.74. I’m told she’s coming along well and looks great. I’ll let you know what I think when I see her tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!

Ya-a-ay!

Posted by Avram Freedberg

Arielle’s Song is coming to Saratoga! She is being discharged from her lengthy stay at the lay-up farm with clear lungs. Though she still had a trace of mucous, she should be OK. I’m excited about meeting her and Conseated Lady for the first time this weekend. Haven’t seen Rexy in a long time either. It will be wonderful if she wins tomorrow. And, it’s always nice to see Ahvee’s Destiny. Wow, four horsies!

Best bet is that Ahvee’s Destiny will run on Monday but we’ll see.

We’ll visit the house we’re going to rent while we’re there and make sure everything is in order for us and for guests. Now’s the time to book your visit.

Horse Racing Update ...

Posted by Avram Freedberg

Well, we’ve had some interesting times this week. Our trainer, Linda Rice, was incommunicado. I was ready to change trainers (Burt, thanks for your help in that regard). In the end, we’re staying with Linda with the hope that communication will be better.

Ofcr. Sheila T Rex is entered in a Maiden race for NY Breds on Thursday, 7/31, race 5. Here’s the link:
http://www.drf.com/entries/31/eSAR31.html#5 It’s scheduled for the turf. However, it’s ok with us, if they take it off the grass, since her best race has been in the mud.

Ahvee’s Destiny worked out on the turf. Here’s the notice as received - AHVEE'S DESTINY worked 4f TN gd in :48.80 H (4/43) at SAR, 07/28/08. We hope she will get to race over the weekend.

Arielle’s Song is being re-evaluated tomorrow vis a vis her pneumonia.

We go to Saratoga on Friday for a long weekend.

The rain did us in ...

Posted by Avram Freedberg

Because of the weather conditions, the Saratoga Racing Secretary has altered the planned for races for tomorrow. So, neither Ahvee’s Destiny nor Ofcr. Sheila T Rex will get to run. Will keep you apprised.

Today’s turf races at Saratoga have been taken off the grass because of rain. Ahvee’s Destiny will be re-entered for a similar Friday race for Fillies and Mares. Ofcr. Sheila T Rex will be entered in a maiden race that day at the same distance on the turf. Of course, if the weather doesn’t dry out, we may not run. Though, Rexy, may run in either case.

Recent updates ...

Saratoga’s first day of racing is Wednesday. Ahvee’s Destiny is scheduled to run at Saratoga in race 8, an overnight stakes race, 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. Basically, overnight means it wasn’t scheduled before (many Stakes races are scheduled months in advance. However, these are most often “graded stakes.” The top grade is grade 1 down to grade 3. Overnight stakes are not graded at all.

Conseated Lady and Ofcr. Sheila T Rex breezed yesterday at Saratoga. Conseated Lady’s 37:64 for 3 furlongs and Rexy’s 1:03.07 for 5 furlongs are middle of the road times.

We’re back from Europe where I caught a bad cold on a train from Bern to Zurich. One of the passengers was coughing and sneezing throughout the trip.

There was 3 days of rain in Bern. However, we did get to go ballooning once in Switzerland. It was a lot of fun. Highly recommended! I’ll try and post some photos later this week, though my photo/PC interface skills have already had me lose photos of Jonathan’s boffo Hints performance from Saturday night. I also tried to take photos in Paris when the disk was full (leaving me without any of those photos. I used to think I was technically proficient… I guess it was just one more fantasy, of many.

Arielle's Song Update

Posted by Avram C. Freedberg

While her condition continues to improve, Arielle's Song will need two more weeks of antibiotic treatment, since her ultrasound shows the pneumonia has not completely resolved.

We’re in Switzerland where our first balloon trip got wiped out by severe thundershowers, after a beautiful day. Weather forecast continues to be grim. Boo Hoo!

Have a nice Shabbat (Saturday or Sunday!) and a lovely weekend.

Update from Paris

Posted by Avram Freedberg

On a very ecumenical day in Paris, Conseated Lady ran a nice work doing 3 furlongs at Saratoga in :37.66. It’s her first breeze, since returning from the NJ Equine Hospital.

In Paris, we went to the Jewish section, Le Marais, and the Deportation of Jews Memorial; Cathedral of Notre Dame (NO HUNCHBACKS FOUND); and the Institute for Arab Culture (Their building had glass panels that can vary the amount of light passing through them).

Paying her own way ...

Posted by Avram Freedberg

Ahvee’s Destiny bore out at the start bumping into the horse on her right. Instead of positioning behind a horse or two, she went for the lead and ran gamely, coming back from several attempts by Jilli’s Cape to pass her… until the end, when she was passed by ¾ length. She came in second on a track rated only “good,” so she did well for herself. She likes the track “firm.” She’ll ship to Saratoga mid-month.

Ofcr. Sheila T Rex worked 4 furlongs in a slow 52.08 seconds. I guess she’ll end up in a claiming race for maidens in Saratoga.

Paris is great. Screwed up many nighttime photos from the Eiffel Tower by not turning off the flash but still got some nice ones from the Trocadero. My hooves are more sore than the horsie’s hooves. In three days, we’ve been to the Tower twice, Versailles Palace and Gardens, Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet, Louvre, L’Orangerie, Montmatton. Primitive Museum, saw friends for dinner… whew!

Horse Update July 6, 2008

Posted by Avram C. Freedberg

Ofcr. Sheila T Rex had a four furlong workout in 50.8 last week. Not as sparkling as her earlier 3 furlong workouts. It remains to be seen whether we will enter in a Maiden Claiming race or not.

Ahvee’s Destiny will probably try again at Monmouth on July 6th. She will go up to Saratoga around the middle of the month.

Conseated Lady is back “under tack” (in training). Hopefully, she will get to run at Saratoga.

Arielle’s Song will soon be screened to make sure all pneumonia is gone. Thereafter, she will hopefully join the harem in Saratoga. Doubt she will get to run there but as I always say about the racing business, the key word is “hope!”

As for the yearlings, Holy Blitzer has been turned out to romp in the Florida sun with her stable mate, Katy’s Office Girl.
